County has some of the most haunted sites in Maryland.
Many
will of those sites associated with hauntings and
ghostly tales of the dead will be included in Mindie Burgoyne’s
Caroline County Haunted Heritage Tour. Burgoyne’s successful book,
Haunted Eastern
Shore drew so much interest from ghost
hunters and ghost-story lovers that she has agreed
–at the request of her readers - to do several tours
on the Eastern Shore, highlighting some of the sites
from her book and some she's still researching.
Sites related to stories in
Haunted Eastern
Shore:
Patty Cannon's homestead site
place where legendary slave catcher / mass murderer
lived and kept an inn. Includes surrounding
farm land where bones of her murder victims were
found.
Sallie Dean House -
site where Sallie Dean, a 14 year old girl from
Harmony, lived prior to her murder.
Willsons Chance - Home of
Annie Belle Carter who fell to her death from the
second floor balcony and has been seen dancing
across the lawn.
Denton Jail (pictured above) -Know
for years to be haunted by the ghost of Wish
Sheppard.
Athol - Historic Home in Henderson known be
haunted by the ghosts of children who can be heard
speaking from time to time in the dining room.
Additional Sites:
Denton Cemetery - The ghost of lynched and
dismembered murderer (of Sallie Dean), Marshall
Price is said to haunt this cemetery where he is
buried. Annie Belle Carter's grave is also
here.
Linchester Mill - Key site in Underground
Railroad traffic, located in Preston.

The Haunted Heritage Tour will be guided by
Mindie Burgoyne, author of "Haunted
Eastern Shore: Ghostly Tales from East of the
Chesapeake" who will give the presentation
and escort the guests on the bus tour, giving
narration and answering questions.
MUSEUM OF RURAL LIFE - MEETING PLACE
Guests will meet at the Caroline Museum of Rural
Life for a 30 minute presentation on historic
heritage sites to be toured. Then all will board a
luxury tour bus operated by
Action Motorcoach and traverse 80 miles of
beautiful Caroline County - one of the most
undeveloped counties in Maryland.

pm and have the option of dinner (advanced
reservation required) catered by the Chesapeake
Culinary Institute - $15 charge.

Mindie Burgoyne has been able to attract
over to 4000 fans to her
Facebook Fan Page for Haunted Eastern Shore. She
attributes the interest in the ghost tours and the
unexpected success of the book (first printing sold
out in five weeks) to her ability to build up the
fan base through social media. She sees the spin-off
successes, like the ghost tours as a result of
enthusiastic fans being able to interact with each
other on a topic they’re crazy about. “Fans have
been organizing their own tours to the sites
mentioned in the book, and I’ve had several requests
to guide ghost tours, and the first tour we did in
Crisfield was so successful, we added Dorchester,
and now Caroline."
The Caroline Heritage tour is being co-sponsored by the
Caroline Economic Development Corporation's Office
of Tourism. Seating is
limited to forty people, and spots
have sold very quickly in the past so make your
reservation today.
NOTE - BOOKS WILL BE FOR SALE: Copies of
Haunted Eastern
Shore: Ghostly Tales from East of the Chesapeake
will be available for pre-order so guests can have
them on the tour for reference, or for sale at the
dinner after the tour. Copies are $17.99 + MD tax = $19.08.
The author, Mindie Burgoyne will
be happy to sign copies.

1:00 Meet at Museum of Rural Life in Denton,
pre-ordered books are given out and signed.

1:05 Presentation by Mindie Burgoyne on haunted
sites in Caroline County

1:35 Guests board the bus and 80 mile tour of the
county begins with Mindie Burgoyne as Tour guide

5:00 Bus returns to Denton. Tour is completed.

5:15 Dinner is served in Museum for those that
registered in advance ($15) Books can be
purchased and signed at this time.
