The ghosts and tales of the dead of East
Dorchester County will be the focus of the Halloween
Haunted Tour sponsored by Chesapeake College.
Mindie Burgoyne, author of
Haunted Eastern
Shore: Ghostly Tales from East of the Chesapeake,
will lead a tour group on a bus tour of haunted
sites.
Sites on the tour will include the Patty Cannon
properties at Johnson's Crossroads in Reliance.
See where Patty Cannon's house originally stood and
identify the suspected property site for Johnson's
Tavern where kidnapped free Blacks and slaves were
once shackled in wait for Patty's terrifying ride
south into the slave markets. See the fields
where the bones of her murdered victims were
uncovered eventually leading her arrest and alleged
suicide in the Sussex County jail. Woodland
Ferry (previously Cannon Ferry), Cannon Hall and
Maggie's Bridge in Sussex County DE will also be on
the tour.
Also on the tour - sites associated with legends
of the Indians who occupied the lands near
Vienna, Ghost Island near Henry's Crossroads. And what ghost
tour wouldn't include Decoursey Bridge, the place
where Big Lizz - the Eastern Shore's most famous
ghost - calls people into the swamp to find the yet
undiscovered treasure of her long dead master?
If time permits, the bus tour will travel down
through Blackwater and visit lower Dorchester where
the Wild Men of Andrews lived, and Frances Wingate
disappeared.
Guests will hear the history of these long gone
Dorchester countians and the sites associated with
their spirits. They'll listen to the legendary tales of ghosts,
haunting and stories of the dead; and experience
many of the sites up-close-and-personal. These are
just a few of the haunting tales that will enthrall
passengers!
Passengers will meet at the Cambridge campus of
Chesapeake College. Course fee is $32. Sunday,
10/23/11 from 1-5 pm. For more information or to
register, contact Marci Leach at 410-827-5833 or

THE AUTHOR - TOUR GUIDE
Mindie Burgoyne has been able to attract
over 5400 fans to her
Facebook Fan Page for Haunted Eastern Shore. She
attributes the interest in the ghost tours and the
unexpected success of the book (first printing sold
out in five weeks) to her ability to build up the
fan base through social media. She sees the spin-off
successes, like the ghost tours as a result of
enthusiastic fans being able to interact with each
other on a topic they’re crazy about. “Fans have
been organizing their own tours to the sites
mentioned in the book, and I’ve had several requests
to guide ghost tours, and the first tour we did in
Crisfield was so successful, we've added Dorchester,
then Caroline and now we're working with Chesapeake
College to cover the Upper Shore counties."
NOTE - BOOKS WILL BE FOR SALE: Copies of
